I was born in Otley, West Yorkshire in 1963. After leaving
school in 1979, I moved to London where I worked for a large publishing house
for the next ten years, working on an advertising copy desk. In 1986 I moved
out of London, but continued to work there, travelling daily by train. During
my time at IPC Magazines I would supplement my income (ie. earn a bit of beer
money) by making brooches, little clay models, paperweights etc. for my
colleagues at work.
Eventually, due to increasing travelling costs, I left my
job in London and started making small resin fireplaces and Agas, which I
sold at craft fairs most weekends. I was eventually "spotted" by Mr Bob Hopwood,
who invited me to attend his Miniatura show in Birmingham. I started producing
sculptures around 1990 (my first efforts were rather crude, but with patience
and practice have gradually improved).
I am married - to Joanne - and look
after our small son, Tom, full time. I work part-time from a converted cobbler's
workshop at the bottom of the garden.
In 1999 I was awarded an IGMA fellowship.
